Preparation
  1. Gather all the ingredients and equipment.
  2. Preheat grill or deep fryer.
  3. Peel plantains and slice ½ inch (1.27 centimeter) thick on the bias.
  4. To Grill: Lightly brush with oil, and grill for approximately 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until plantains have good caramelized grill marks on both sides.
  5. To Deep Fry: Heat the frying liquid to the proper temperature. Submerge the plantains completely. Fry the plantains until they are cooked throughout. Drain on a rack or absorbent paper.
  6. Season slightly with salt.
